On my recent trip to the UK I kept my eye out for any unusual post boxes. This one caught my eye. Nicola Adams won a gold medal for boxing at the London 2012 Olympics. To commemorate this and other gold medal winners in the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics Royal Mail painted a post box gold for each medal winner. The boxes will remain gold permanently. Ignoring for a moment the argument about who should receive this type of recognition I thought this was a nice gesture.

On a separate theme I liked that the sign also has braille for vision impaired people. However would it not also be good if the collection times had information in braille also?

I was in Killarney for a stag party last weekend and on Sunday I strolled around the town to clear my head and take in the sights. I always liked seeing the different post boxes with British regalia which are fairly common around Ireland. What I never took notice of was the makers name. I noticed a number of different boxes in Killarney made by WT Allen & Co. A later google search suggested that the company still operates in London. I thought it was strange that a non-Irish company produced these post boxes in Ireland. Another web search indicated that they actually had a long term contract for the supply.
